Recognise the pattern

A sequence is a three-rank run without a common suit. It ranks above Colour in the classic order used here.

Read the notation

The order in which cards are typed does not change their ranks. Sort them in your notes if that helps you see the pattern.

A practice question

Write the same three ranks in another order and check whether your description changes. Focus on the set of cards rather than the display order.

Keep the convention visible

If a run includes an ace, read the comparison tool’s selected rule before interpreting the result.
